INTEGRATIVE PSYCHIATRIST
Mark G. Agresti, M.D., P.A.
Specializing in integrative medicine which combines psychopharmacology with dietary changes, dietary supplements, botanical remedies, exercise relaxation training, and a variety of mind-body therapies like yoga, meditation and tai chi. Integrative medicine emphasizes the following principles: The body has the innate capacity for healing and self-repair. It can regenerate and adapt to injury and loss.
Integrative Psychiatry views the individual as a whole person. They are more than physical bodies. They are mental, emotional beings. Individuals are spiritual entities and members of particular communities and societies. Emphasizing the importance of lifestyle, diet, physical activity, rest, sleep, stress and relationships. There is also the issue of the critical role of the doctor-patient relationship. When a trained person sits with a patient and listens with full attention to his or her story, that alone can initiate healing before any treatment is offered.
Mission Statement: To integrate all aspects of treatment, which includes different types of psychotherapies, medicines, herbal and vitamin supplements, and mind-body therapies. The goal of treatment is to deemphasize medication and use all other treatments available to minimize the use of medication.
